This is a large-sized apophyllite, chalcedony and stilbite geode from India. The interior features deposits of gray and white chalcedony with sharp, gemmy crystals of apophyllite and peachy-pink aggregates of stilbite crystals. The last photo shows the geode next to a standard 12oz soda can for scale. Soda will not be included in your shipment 😉
This piece was mined from the Deccan Traps in Maharashtra State. The Deccan Traps refer to a vast expanse of late Cretaceous-aged (~66 million years ago) volcanic basalt deposits. Trapped gasses in the cooling lava resulted in voids or cavities which were then filled with gorgeous secondary minerals. The basalt matrix on this geode has been hand-sculpted into a base which allows the piece to self-stand and display nicely.
